People have gathered for the last couple of years for a potluck, but this was the first time Jeff and I attended. It’s pretty bizarre, but a group gathers at the rest stop on the highway for an evening potluck. I like to refer to it as the “truck stop” party. There ARE trucks parked in the lot, drivers presumably getting a little sleep, and during the party, travelers stopped to pee and to take pictures. BECAUSE THE VIEW FROM THIS REST AREA IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!
This year, the party was organized by the Terreberrys. They provided linens and tableware, and placed vases filled with flowers (that I suspect were pilfered from peoples’ gardens) on the tables. People went all out with the food. Have you ever noticed that some people are really good at garnishing? I tend to forget that part. People brought their own drinks. A lot of the drinks were vodka disguised as water, since the place is technically a state park or something.
Here are a couple of pictures of the crowd. This is definitely the most beautiful highway rest stop I’ve ever seen. But really? Party at a rest stop? Can someone top this?
